Acura is a division of the Japanese car manufacturing company, Honda, that produces luxury sedans and SUVs. The cars are built for high performance and great comfort. The brand was launched about thirty years ago, the year 1986 to be specific, in the United States and Canada. It has since been made available in Hong Kong, Mexico, China, Russia and Kuwait. The decision to establish a luxury car brand for Honda was very necessary because of the economic conditions existing at the time. It helped the company to circumvent the 1981 agreement that put a limitation in the number of cars that Japanese manufacturers could export to the United States every year. Instead they were required to focus on building the cars domestically.
This move by Honda led to the creation of similar luxury brands by popular car producers like Toyota (Lexus) and Nissan (Infiniti). Another contributing factor was the unprecedented success that the company witnessed when it launched its first model, the Legend. More plants were established in Japan to manufacture them. Acura holds the record of being the first Japanese company to focus on the production of luxury cars.
The Acura logo, a stylish" A", was introduced in 1990 and can be interpreted to stand for the name of the brand or in another scenario, a skewed" H" for the parent company, Honda. Even though Acura cars are generally highly priced than conventional Honda Vehicles, they are better designed and use the latest technology to produce quality high-performance cars.
The company has a mobility program which ensures the safety of disabled drivers in their cars. It reimburses them in cash for any adaptive equipment bought in the process of ensuring comfort and better driving ability.
Current Models and Price Range
Acura currently has six distinct models in the market; NSX, MDX, TLX, RLX, RDX and ILX. The 2016 Acura ILX sedan retails from about $30,000, the 2016 MDX at $51,000, the RLX at $54,000 and RDX at $39,000. The MDX is the backbone of the Acura brand and has been the highest selling model for seven consecutive years. In the year 2015, a total of 177,165 Acura brand cars were sold in the U.S market alone.
Compared to other luxury brand car manufacturers, Acura cars are reasonably priced. Most Japanese cars thrive on affordability and this brand has tried to maintain that even though it produces luxury cars for the high-end market.
